Welcome to SARACS Research Group
The research group “Seguridad, Analisis de Riesgos, Accidentes y Confiabilidad de Sistemas (SARACS)" has been created by Dr. Jaime R. Santos-Reyes. The SARACS research group aims at gaining a better understanding of systems’ failure by applying both qualitative (i.e. a systemic point of view) and quantitative approaches (i.e. ‘hard’ systems). Modern technology provides powerful tools to stimulate a wide range of benefits for society. However, it may be argued that technological progress is associated with hazards and risks, both perceived and real. A number of systems' failures have occurred in a wide range of industrial sectors (i.e., aviation, chemical, offshore oil and gas, rail, marine, etc.) in recent years. Given this, there is a need to gain a better understanding of risk so that it can be maintained within an acceptable range.
The research group has links with other research centres such as the Civil Engineering Section, School of the Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.
